Dr. Cheryl R. Rolle, Education Director of the Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission, was the commencement speaker at the tenth anniversary graduation ceremony of the Maranatha High School which was held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Tropicana Supper Club, Lower Bight, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. Addressing the theme, “Champions Through Perseverance”, she challenged the students to do their best, remembering that love should be the motive behind everything they do.
“As you walk through the world, as you pursue your personal dream, let Jesus flow through you in an endless river, working through you, washing His way through every soul you meet, bathing him or her in sincerity and compassion,” Dr. Rolle said. “Work to succeed. When you do, most likely, few will notice. But working in the Spirit of Jesus, you will never grow tired. In spite of your human failings, you will never give up.”
Bringing greetings at that ceremony were Mr. Kingsley Been, Permanent Secretary for the Turks and Caicos Islands Government Advisory Board; Mr. Clayton Greene, leader of the Progressive National Party; the Hon. Clarence Selver, representing the People’s Democratic Party; Mr. Edgar Howell, Director of Education for the Turks and Caicos Islands; and Pastor Michael A. Smith, President of the Turks and Caicos Islands Mission of S.D.A. and the Chairman of the Maranatha High School Board of Governors. Also in attendance were the P.T.A. President, Ms. Judith Robinson; members of the Mission Executive Committee; special invitees; and the parents and friends of the thirty-six-member graduating class.
One of the culminating events of the tenth anniversary of the school was a banquet held at The Veranda Resort on Thursday, June 16, 2011, where awards were presented to persons who have supported the growth and development of the Maranatha High School since its inception. The keynote speaker at the banquet was Pastor Michael A. Smith who reminded the students that true champions are ethical, moral, dreamers, achievers, educationally prepared, and persevering. On Sabbath afternoon, June 18, 2011, Pastor Roy Lindsay further charged the students with three main points: (1) develop a positive attitude; (2) set goals; and (3) don’t give up.
During her stay, Dr. Rolle visited the school campus where she met with the principal, Mr. Reinford Trail, and shared with the teachers the Union’s goals and objectives for education in this region during the quadrennium. Dr. Rolle also met with the local Education Director, Mrs. Lynn Smith, and discussed important dates in the Union’s education calendar, accreditation visits for Maranatha High School, and the professional development of teachers.
Dr. Rolle was accompanied on this trip by her husband, Mr. Pedro Rolle, a financier and entrepreneur for many years.
