By Tonia Palmer, NBC Communication Director

Building on the successes of the past 7 years, the Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church, one of the eleven churches in the North Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (NBC) headquartered in Freeport, Grand Bahama, hosted its 8th Annual Grand Bahama Health Expo this past Sunday, June 3, 2012, on the Shiloh Church grounds.
Under the Theme “Promoting Healthy Lifestyles,” the Health Ministries and Community Services Departments started the week with nightly informative health seminars. Among the many speakers featured were Dr. Tamara Burke-Moree (RMH) who focused on men’s and women’s health issues and cancer prevention; Dr. Elaine Lundy (RMH) who presented on children’s health; and Nurse Dawn Albury Gaitor (Nassau) who spoke on Hypertension and Diabetes. Dr. Lester Careero (Orlando, FL) culminated the seminars with a presentation on ways to treat various illnesses with natural remedies and diet.

Minister for Grand Bahama, The Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, M.P., officially opened the 8th Annual Grand Bahama Health Expo and commented on the life-changing work that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is doing in promoting and emphasizing the importance of healthy lifestyles in the community of Grand Bahama.

Shiloh’s Health Ministries leader, Mr. Londell Albury, noted that the Health Expo programs are designed to place emphasis on “Total Health" which means a “balance and optimum functioning of all dimensions of life – the physical, mental, social, and spiritual.”

Through the eight health education exhibits, community health professionals and church volunteers explained and demonstrated simply and scientifically the "Eight Steps to Better Living.” The Expo visitors were able to see, hear, feel, and even taste the experience of "Total Health" as they visited the eight action-packed centers that featured Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest, and Trust in Divine Power.

Other exhibits were Back Yard Gardening, Health Screening Stations, Health Age by Computer, Kids Booth, Vegetarian Cuisine Sampling, Bush Teas, Pathfinder Club, and the Adventist Book & Nutrition Store.

The Grand Bahama Health Expo Committee would like to thank all of their sponsors - BTC, the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Waugh Construction, BORCO, Polymers International, Ross University, and the North Bahamas Conference of SDA for partnering with them and helping to make the 8th Annual Health Expo a success.
