During the weekend of April 12-13, 2013, a spirit of prophecy seminar was conducted in the North Bahamas Conference (NBC) at the Freeport Seventh-day Adventist Church.
According to the organizers, the objective of the forum was to educate and inform members of the significance and role of the gift of prophecy in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The main presenter for the occasion was Pastor Leon Wellington, vice president and spirit of prophecy coordinator of the Inter-American Division (IAD).

During his presentations, Pastor Wellington explained that one of the unique features of Seventh-day Adventism is related to our understanding of the gift of prophecy.
“Many individuals don’t understand the purpose of the gift of prophecy and as a result, what we see happening around us is a ‘religious maze’ of doctrines,” he noted. In addition, Pastor Wellington presented ten guidelines for understanding and interpreting the writings of Ellen G. White:
1. Begin with a healthy outlook
2. Focus on the central issues
3. Emphasize what is important
4. Make it a matter of prayer
5. Avoid extreme interpretations (balance is the key)
6. Take time and place into consideration
7. Study each statement in its literal context
8. Recognize Ellen White’s understanding of the ideal
9. Use common sense
10. Discover the main issue

Accompanying Pastor Wellington was Pastor Leonard Johnson, president and spirit of prophecy coordinator for the Atlantic Caribbean Union.

Of the weekend, Pastor Johnson said, “I am happy for such a seminar given the growth of the church in the North Bahamas. Many have been baptized and probably do not know about this gift. In this, I find Elder Wellington's visit so timely. It will certainly serve to inform workers and members alike of the relevance of this gift for the church inclusive of the writings and ministry of Ellen G. White."

Pastor Errol Tinker, president of the North Bahamas Conference and spirit of prophecy coordinator, was the host for the weekend.
