For the first time, I attended a Camporee and it was in the Cayman Islands under the theme Strong Finish from July 4- 12, 2026. At this Camporee other Pathfinders from the South & North Bahamas Conferences, Cayman Islands Conference and Turks & Caicos Conference along with myself got to do lots of honors and participate in skills exhibitions. The camporee was at the Stacy Watler Agricultural Pavilion, and there were over 200 Pathfinders there. We all got to learn different things together, and I thought it was really fun.
Honors are things that teach me skills I can use at anytime. Honestly, some honors are easy and some are really hard but it depends on what you’re good at. Even though they can be really hard ones, I think they can be fun because you get to learn something new.
The honors at the camp were web evangelism, glass painting, social media, artificial intelligence, sanctuary, bones, muscles & movement, scrapbooking, electricity, basketball, digital photography and disaster preparedness response.
One of the many skills exhibitions I did was knot tying. Before camp, I didn’t know there were so many different knots. There’s the slip knot, granny, square, and many more. Most of these knots are very crucial for you to learn. If you learn these knots, it will decide your fate as life or death.
Another skill was tent pitching. If you ever have to camp outside, you need to know how to put up a tent the right way. If you don’t, it might fall down if the wind blows. I didn’t know there was so much work to pitching a tent. This honor is also crucial to your safety. If you are in the wild, a tent is the thing to sleep in. Therefore, tent pitching is an essential part of camping. It also needs to be stable. Tent pitching is truly an essential skill for your life.
I think my favorite skills exhibition was first aid because everybody should know how to help someone if they get hurt. This honor is 100% essential, whether in the wild or not. This honor is for when you get hurt. Bandages and casts are part of first aid. We also need to enforce first aid skills, as they will help greatly in that matter. First aid is arguably the most important honor of them all. It was in this exhibition, showcasing this honor, that I had the privilege of being a part of the South Bahamas Conference team to showcase my skills gained in knot tying to transfer an injured patient. That was a real fun experience to put into practice what I had learned. I must say I had a great time doing my honors and skills at Camporee. I even want to earn more! So now I have a question for you. If you could pick one honor and skill to learn, which one would you choose?
