Each morning at the 2nd Atlantic Caribbean Union Pathfinder Camporee begins with more than a routine ceremony, it begins with a powerful reminder of unity, excellence, and the official start of another day of adventure and spiritual growth.
As Pathfinders stand at attention, representatives from the various conferences and countries of the Atlantic Caribbean Union proudly raise their flags before hundreds of campers gathered on the parade grounds. The ceremony marks the official beginning of the day’s Camporee activities while celebrating the diversity that makes the Union family unique.
For many Pathfinders, having the opportunity to raise their country’s or conference’s flag is one of the highest honors of the Camporee. “It is a privilege for your country to raise your own flag,” explained parade coordinator Ray Jennings. “When the flag is raised, it tells the official start of the program.”
The honor is not given randomly. Throughout the Camporee, conferences and tent groups are evaluated on their overall performance, including discipline, teamwork, and adherence to Camporee standards. The tent that accumulates the most points earns the opportunity to lead the flag-raising ceremony.
“The competitions encourage everyone to strive for excellence,” Jennings said. “The tent with the most points goes out to raise the flag. It helps push everyone to a higher standard.”
More than simply recognizing achievement, the ceremony reinforces important values that Pathfinders carry beyond Camporee. Discipline, following instructions, teamwork, camaraderie, and respect are all displayed as the selected unit performs with precision before their peers.
Beginning in the inner circle of competition, units progress by consistently demonstrating these qualities until they earn the opportunity to represent their conference during one of Camporee’s most visible ceremonies.
For the chosen Pathfinders, raising the flag is both a reward and a responsibility.
“It is a privilege for you,” Jennings emphasized.
As the flags wave above the Camporee grounds each morning, they serve as a visible reminder that while the Atlantic Caribbean Union is made up of different islands, conferences, and cultures, its Pathfinders stand together under one mission, to RISE, faithfully represent Christ, pursue excellence, and finish strong.
