Teaching Children to be Faithful Stewards

By Henry R. Moncur III | ATCU Communication

The Atlantic Caribbean Union’s (ATCU) Children’s and Adolescent Ministries (CHAM) Department will observe Stewardship Week from February 28 to March 7, 2026. The union-wide emphasis aims to help children understand stewardship as a lifestyle, with churches across the region offering learning and service experiences that nurture their spiritual values and deepen their relationship with God as faithful stewards of His gifts.

What is Stewardship Week?

In the Seventh-day Adventist Church, stewardship goes well beyond money. It involves wisely managing everything God entrusts to us (our time, talents, health, environment, resources, relationships, and spiritual growth) as an act of devotion and worship. For children, Stewardship Week provides an age-appropriate introduction to these ideas, helping them recognize that all they have comes from God and that caring for His gifts is an expression of love and worship. Through activities, devotional content, service projects, and worship experiences designed for young learners, stewardship becomes a joyful, lifelong expression of faith rather than a burden or adult-only rule.

Focus Areas
Cheryl Rolle, ATCU CHAM director, emphasizes starting stewardship education early because of its lasting impact. She notes, “Stewardship Week offers more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a chance for children to learn that they matter to God and can make a real difference. By teaching them to care for what God has given and to share with others, children grow up viewing generosity, responsibility, and service as natural parts of faith, and they are motivated by love rather than obligation.”

Using the stewardship program My Place in Space, leaders will engage children in active learning to illustrate that a steward cares for everything entrusted to them. The program frames stewardship as a joyful response to God’s love, not a rigid rule to follow.

This initiative complements the broader mission of ATCU CHAM Department which is to guide children toward a personal, transformative relationship with Jesus and to prepare them to contribute meaningfully as caring members of their churches and communities. By highlighting stewardship early, the department aims to shape future leaders who understand that faith is lived out through service, concern for others, and responsible stewardship of God’s gifts.

Why It Matters
In a world that often promotes materialism and self-interest, ATCU CHAM Stewardship Week invites children to rethink their priorities and view stewardship as a joyful partnership with God in caring for His creation and serving others. Early formation helps children see stewardship as both a privilege and a way of life that draws them closer to God and equips them to bless others.

As ATCU congregations prepare for Stewardship Week, leaders encourage parents and church members to walk beside children during this period of spiritual growth. The week serves as a reminder that stewardship is not only taught but modeled, practiced, and passed on. Through this focused emphasis, ATCU remains committed to vibrant discipleship that begins in childhood and continues throughout life, helping today’s youth become faithful stewards now and for the future.
